The role of Molecular Hydrogen in the fight against oxidative stress as a selective antioxidant.

The most important advantage of Recovery with Hydro FX is that it releases Molecular Hydrogen in the form of gas, in a concentration where a full chemical saturation can be obtained. Molecular Hydrogen produces negative ORP in our body, growing our resistance against free radicals and oxidative stress. We talk about oxidative stress when oxygen and nitrogen free radicals accumulate in our organism and damage the cells and tissues. On the other hand, oxidative stress is present as physiological metabolism as well. The intensity of oxidative stress may, however, reach a dangerous level if our body does not possess enough protective mechanism. If reactive compounds, like peroxide or superoxide are released in low concentration, at the right place and time, they become important signalling molecules. This leads to the oxygenation of a certain thiol-type of target protein, such as the proteins available in the signal transmission routes of our cells. On top of this add the hydroxyl radicals and peroxynitrites, creating oxidative stress.

Excessive oxidative stress and the accompanying tissue damage may cause hundreds of serious diseases. Therefore, it is very important to maintain the acceptable concentration of oxygen compounds, thus keeping the delicate balance between the useful and the high contents of signalling molecules. The latter ones, as we know, give way to oxidative stress with pathological states.

Molecular Hydrogen works as selective antioxidant, neutralizing dangerous radicals only, – in any concentration – while maintaining the useful ones. It neutralizes the hydroxyl radicals and peroxynitrites, responsible for diseases like cancer, Alzheimer or multiple sclerosis in full.

In 2011 Sanetaka Shirahata and his team made a significant discovery: Hydrogen molecules activate the gene responsible for producing antioxidant enzymes such as catalase, glutathione peroxidise and hem oxigenase-1 which are produced according to the actual demands of the cell. These enzymes neutralize huge quantities of free radicals, indiscriminately. This is the very process considered as the best protection against oxidative stress.
